We have everything we need to be that nation †¦ and yet, despite resources that are unmatched anywhere in the world, we have let our grades slip, our schools crumble, our teacher’s quality fall short and other nations outpace us†-President Obama (Splitt). Before I started college, my brother started his junior year in high school and learned that the credits needed to graduate had been lowered from 230 to 220. Looking back, I remembered that teachers passed students because they felt bad, not because they truly deserved that grade. Many students passed by just doing the work and extra credit. Students these days are not truly learning, they are told to do the work so they can simply pass. Obtaining the proper education is necessary for one and the nation to become successful. The Chalice of Ages by DeathevokatioN free essay sample

If you were to listen to Death evokations â€Å"The Chalice of Ages† without knowing anything about it, and were asked to guess where and when it was recorded, I highly doubt your first guess would be California, 2007. This album, in the vein of old-school death metal, sounds like it could have been recorded in Finland in the early ?s. It would fit alongside Demigod or Adramelech, with their style of creating a slower, evil atmosphere, as well as dark riffs and tones. In addition to being old-school death metal, theres a lot of doom influence and even some thrashy parts here. The slower tempo, the sinister feel it gives off, and the vocalists style really give this album its doomier edge. However, its still death metal so it can get just as fast and brutal as the rest of them. â€Å"Infinity Blights the Flesh† is a perfect example of its intensity, as well as the prominence of melody and  harmony. We will write a custom essay sample on The Chalice of Ages by DeathevokatioN or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page The entire album has a great combination of melody and thick, crunchy heaviness. Listen to the title track and youll notice the perfect harmony between elements. The songwriting is top-notch; the album doesnt get dull once during its 61 minutes. Its hard to make a death metal album that long without getting repetitive, but Deathevokation manages it. Three out of the nine songs clock in at over eight minutes, and theyre probably the best here, even if they flow together a bit awkwardly. That could be said for the whole album, but you cant tell because youre so drawn in by its vehemence. A plethora of delicious riffs, creative drum patterns, and stunning harmonies prove that the instrumentation here is great. Every sound fits the music, except for the bass, of course, since its pretty much nowhere to be found. The production does an impressive job, with a hint of that gritty, muddy sound fans love from death metal while still being clean enough for all the separate melodies to be heard clearly. Doomful, menacing, vicious, all while being strangely dulcet, â€Å"The Chalice of Ages† has something for just about every fan of extreme metal. Want death metal with some brutality? How about some slow, brooding doom thrown in for good measure? Melody and an evil acoustic passage or two? If so, youll find something to enjoy here.

Child abuse in Texas Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Child abuse in Texas - Research Paper Example Many cases have surfaced evidencing the extent of child abuse by family, relatives and even trusted acquaintances. Child maltreatment includes sexual molestation as well as use of a forbidden substance resulting in psychological or physical injury to a child. Children below the age of three are the most vulnerable to child abuse as they entirely depend on their parents and can hardly defend themselves from any harm. Parents expose their children to danger due to their lack of proper parenting education. According to (Libal 220), most parents aged 26-35 years old are likely to blame for the abuses. From parents to teachers and elders they exact corporal retribution and other means of punishment to inflict physical abuse. It also involves bullying in schools from senior students and schoolmates. The Texas government has created a department to oversee child abuse cases. If residents suspect any child abuse case, they are mandated to report to Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Services (Diamond 1). The agency in an attempt to address child abuse by mandating professionals such as teachers, doctors day care employees as well as other state-licensed organizations that have personal contact with the children to report any concerns they may observe in to ensure safety of the children (Barriere and Feldman 1572). Texas law has provisions of criminal authorization for attacks, sexual molestation and all other acts that are committed against children leading to child abuse. Texas family Code provides for child protection from abusers. It forms the basis for criminal persecution of those who abuses or commits a crime against children. According to the code, abuse entails acts or omissions that risk or impairs a child’s psychological, physical and emotional as well as health advancement. Interrelationship between Leadership and Organizational Commitment Literature review - 1

Interrelationship between Leadership and Organizational Commitment - Literature review Example Leadership is an ability to persuade any group towards the attainment of goals. In the year 1964, Tannenbaum and others have considered leadership as an influential factor in human relations. Leadership is an attribute guiding a group of people to achieve preset goals through communication. According to Fiedler, leadership can be assumed to be a type of relationship to make the group members work together and achieve common goal. Rauch and Behling in 1984 and Hsieh in the year 1993 considered leadership as a process to influence any group to approach the goals. Since twentieth century, a number of theories and literature had been introduced to prove different standpoints. Four major perspectives had been shown through these theories. Some of the theories are articulated in the later segment (Wu et. al., 2006, p.438- 440). In 1957, Halpin and Winer had introduced two dimensions, initiating consideration and structure. Following the same, a number of studies conducted by Stogdill, Like rt and Kotter also introduced certain behavioral attributes of leadership. In the year 1967, Fiedler has introduced the contingency model of leadership. In the year 1971, House came up with a path-goal theory by extracting details from the research carried out by Ohio State University as well as the expectancy theory of motivation. In the year 1977, Blackchard and Hersey introduced situational leadership theory considering two leadership sides. On the other hand, transformational leaders possess significant personal.

Cloud Computing Essay Example for Free

Cloud Computing Essay How did Ericsson benefit from Amazon Web Services (AWS)? According to Amazon’s Web Service website, it gives users the option to run just about everything using their service applications. By incorporating cloud computing, users are able to cut variable costs to a more attractive scale for the business by eliminating costly administrative and hardware fees. Due to remote access, Ericsson was able to immediately take advantage of AWS’s benefits since the infrastructure was already up and running. Demands change quickly and it’s important for a company to be able to adjust accordingly. By using the cloud system, Ericsson was able to employ software updates and new applications quickly and more effectively. AWS services hundreds of thousands of customers in more than 190 countries, making their global infrastructure far more expansive than competitors; this allowed Ericsson to have data centers in various parts of the world. According to information provided in the case study, Ericsson chose AWS because they felt it was â€Å"the most integrated public cloud provider in the Rightscale Cloud Management Platform (Rightscale)†. Amazon EC2, Amazon S3, and RightScale Amazon EC2 The AWS website describes Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) as a web service that provides resizable compute capacity in the cloud, making web-scale computing easier for developers. It also allows you to quickly scale capacity up and down if and when your computing requirements change. Because this system works on a â€Å"pay-as-you-go† method, you only pay for the capacity you use which is a great option from an economic stand point. Amazon S3 Amazon S3 is described quite simply on the AWS website—storage for the Internet. It makes a developer’s job easier by providing for more convenient Web-scale computing. It gives them access to the same high quality infrastructure that Amazon uses to run its global network. With Amazon S3, one can store any amount data, anywhere, and have total access to it at any time via the web. The main purpose of this service is to â€Å"maximize benefits of scale and pass them on to developers† (AWS Website, 2012). RightScale RightScale is your bridge between applications and your cloud infrastructure. It allows for easy deployment and management of apps across not only   public clouds, but private and hybrid ones as well. RightScale configures efficiently and also provides organizations with better overall command of the cloud computing infrastructure and applications. Server management is an important aspect of using the cloud, and with this service, the company can scale and monitor more effectively, enhancing control. Organizations view the portability of RightScale as a huge incentive because it provides for greater flexibility and less restriction in a sense of provider options. Security Concerns How to Cope With Them Naturally, with any cloud-based service, there are lots of security concerns, including but not limited to, recovery issues, who has access to sensitive information, and data location. Recovery Issues In the event that the organization loses information or experiences a tragic situation, the vendor who is sponsoring the cloud-based service should have a detailed and easily executable plan in place to resolve the issue and make the process of recovery as painless as possible. It’s also important that both parties agree to the terms beforehand to avoid any unnecessary disagreements and issues. User Access When an organization opts to use cloud-based computing, they release a level of control, to a certain degree. The vendor controls the cloud and their employees may have access to the client’s information. It’s vital that the client organization seek clarity on exactly who has that access and their credentials—level of expertise, exact job title and company responsibility, etc. Data Location The client organization wants to make sure they at least know what country the cloud system they are using is located in. There are some cases where the organization has no clue where the cloud they are utilizing is based and that could potentially be a problem. One way to ease concern would be for the client to suggest specific locations and ensure that company privacy will not be breached. One suggestion to cope with the afore mentioned security concerns would be a method called the â€Å"layered approach†. The good thing about this option is it not only offers protection for not only the organization, but the vendor as well. The multi-level technique makes for a layered defense model that keeps the company from totally relying on one option. Level one—physical security—would focus on monitoring the actual facility that houses servers and other sensitive equipment. Level two—network security—would ensure around-the-clock monitoring of the network by well trained personnel. Level three—intrusion detection—would control the traffic that enters and leaves the network, making sure that any possible intrusion would be detected immediately and handled accordingly. Level four—firewall management—these should be custom fitted for the organization. These are commonly used with organizations and provide that added cushion in the level of security. And finally, Level five—data encryption—should be maintained inside and outside the cloud. Because the information that is transmitted over the cloud is so sensitive, maintain a high level of security is extremely important. This is mainly the vendor’s responsibility; however, the client organization can absolutely make suggestions and requirements that personally cater to their needs. Scalability, Reliability, and Cost Issues Associated with Cloud Computing Organizations can easily capitalize on economies of scale and majorly cut costs because virtualization is the main vehicle for cloud-based computing. The need to purchase and maintain hardware and spend funds on administrative costs is basically eliminated. The mobility of the cloud network allows for total access of large amounts of data anywhere, anytime and companies find that to be a very attractive incentive. The only issue that may arise is network reliability—yes, the problem with data storage is limited and inexpensive; however, the probability of outages is unavoidable with this option. Cloud computing can become very expensive to install and get running; however, the fact that companies only pay for services they use is great! Eliminating the need to maintain subscriptions and licenses saves the company tons of money and makes running the infrastructure considerably more convenient. It is clear that the benefits outweigh the possible issues that may arise. Whether something gets stuck in the airway or the heart stops beating, lost minutes can be fatal. The best way to be prepared for something like this is to know how to do cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   If you have a baby under a year old that seems to be struggling for air and might even have started to turn blue, what would you do? If you knew CPR, you could very possibly save a life. First, you will need to assess the situation. Look, listen, and feel for breathing. If the baby is not breathing but is moving its arms and legs, lay the baby face down in your lap toward your feet. Be sure to support the baby’s head, and make sure the head is lower than its body. Perform five back blows between the baby’s shoulder blades. This should dislodge anything that is stuck in its airway. Now, turn the baby over and preform five chest thrusts, by placing your third and fourth fingers a half inch below the nipples in the center of the chest and making compressions a half-inch deep. Next, look into the baby’s mouth for any foreign object. If you see anything in the baby’s mouth, stick your finger into the baby’s mouth to remove the foreign object. If you don’t see an object, then repeat the process. If the baby becomes unconscious, then call 911. Try to stay calm because if you lose control, you won’t be able to help. Now, if the baby is not breathing or moving, you will need to gently tap him/her on the shoulder and shout. If there is no response, you will need to begin infant CPR. To do this, you will need to place the baby on its back. Tilt the head back slightly to open the airway. Make sure you don’t tilt the head too far, or you could hurt the neck. If the baby is still not breathing, cover his/her mouth and nose with   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Southerland 2 your mouth and give two small puffs of breath. Each breath should be one and a half to two seconds long. You should see the baby’s chest rise with each breath. Next, position your third and fourth fingers in the center of the baby’s chest half an inch below the nipples, and give five gentle chest compressions at the rate of 100 compressions per minute.

“Yamaha Fiore” 2NE1 †Celebrity Endorsement

Celebrity endorsement is commonly used to market products, it is a strategy which gives a â€Å"face† to a brand, to which the consumers can relate and aspire to. Yamaha has decided to promote its Fiore scooter Thailand with widely popular Korean pop group 2NE1. Their strategy was to reach out to urban Thai’s who follow foreign trends, music and fashion. While many urban Thai’s certainly are fans of the Korean fashion and pop music it remains unclear as to what effect the campaign has had on the purchase decision making and increased market share if any; however the effort did position Yamaha’s scooters as a trendy and youthful. Across European cities scooters are a very popular and low cost means of transportation. In Thailand, and a number of other emerging markets most consumers will aspire to owning their first car and will go to great lands to acquire one such as extending significant loans, whereas motorcycles/scooter are generally used and perceived as necessity for low income market segment. Furthermore, in Bangkok it is apparent that there are very few scooters being driven by the middle to upper market segment consumers, some of the reasons being as mentioned earlier and due to the traffic congestion and pollution which is considered to be dangerous to drive a scooter in. Yamaha is one of Thailand’s largest motorcycle manufacturers with a market share of 26% – expecting to reach 30% in 2011 (Bangkok Post, May 5, 2008) and Honda leading with an impressive 68% (Bangkok Post, May 5, 2008) market share. A large portion of this is assigned to rural areas where people use scooter as common means for transportation whereas in urban areas people will rely on public transportation, own a car or other. The key challenge would remain in changing people’s (middle, upper segment) perception of using scooters as a way to commute, run errands or go to a nearby store rather than solely relying on using car most of the time. This may be achieved by endorsing a local celebrity which would be ideally living in a modern condominium or a housing village also known locally as moo-ban. This would be a more â€Å"practical† approach to promoting a lifestyle people could more easily relate to rather than pop stars. The end result being many of the middle to upper income market segment might acquire a scooter in addition to owning a car to drive around their housing village or condominium and go to a nearby store or a restaurant. In the sportswear industry celebrity endorsement is used probably more often than in others. It is a great way to establish the brand as it is used by professional athletes and draw the consumer’s attention. Nowadays a great deal of sportswear is also worn as casual wear and not only on tennis courts, golf terrains or running track which has significantly widened and expanded the market. A very successful, charismatic athlete can portray a brand with many positive attributes. However, while there are many encouraging factors in using celebrity endorsements across many industries the marketing and advertising campaign could eventually result in negative or less attractive brand perception. Examples include when athletes are found to be using drugs, misbehaving in public or in competition. As mentioned earlier these individuals provide a â€Å"face† to the brand and in this light the public will think of a given brand. Tiger Woods has been one of Nike’s endorsed celebrity which has virtually established the brand in the golf industry. It is one of the prime examples of a success when a brand is tied in with a successful and charismatic athlete who also has the â€Å"star† power. It is also a very direct and relevant persona in the golfing industry which has attracted many first time golfers to purchase Nike equipment and other sportswear. The previously examined case of 2NE1 pop music group would be more fitting and is more commonly used if the endorsement was used to promote fashion, perfume, makeup and other similar products as they are more fitting with feminine attributes of beauty and attractiveness. In this respect Nike has established a firm brand perception with a person who is very relevant in the industry whereas a few years from now most likely very few people will remember the 2NE1 and Yamaha joint campaign. However it is important to note that there are also certain risks when a brand strongly relies on single celebrity as is in the case of Nike/Tiger Woods who has been through a personal scandal which has dramatically affected the golfers perception in public view and who has suffered a loss of a number of endorsements by energy drink makers and telecommunications company, Gatorade and AT&T. And we are yet to see if the company will continue to carry the golfers name in the nearby future.

Comparing Gwendolyn Brooks We Real Cool and Robert...

Fall From Youth Although there are a number of different facets regarding the careers and works of Gwendolyn Brooks and Robert Frost, there are a number of similarities between their respective poems We Real Cool and Nothing Gold Can Stay. These similarities become all the more apparent when one attempts to compare the imagery of these poems. A careful consideration of this comparison indicates that the imagery of each of these poems is preoccupied with the concept of time in various aspects of its ephemeral nature, which ultimately reveals itself in a common theme of the untimely transition of youth to a state of death. Both Brooks and Frosts works largely deal with the transitory aspect of lives that are fated, all too often, to result in premature deaths. The imagery in the former of these poems indicates the early deaths of youths who left school only to die soon (Brooks). The rapid transition from youth to the final stages of life is denoted by the fact that the poem chronicles the fate of scho ol-aged children, or those who recently left school, who chose to revel in substance abuse which is alluded to by the reference to gin (Brooks). At the time that such youngsters should be celebrating life, in June (Brooks), when graduation comes around, they are instead fated to their early deaths. Frost details a similar concept, although instead of utilizing references to people to explore this idea, his principle imagery is that of nature. Nearly all of the
